A black tea from Meghalaya, India, between Assam and Darjeeling.
Lakyrsiew is situated in the hills around Shillong in the Indian state of Meghalaya, between the well-known tea regions of Assam and Darjeeling. Nayantara and her husband Geert Linnebank planted the first bushes in 2002 on the shores of Umiam Lake. It was not until 2007 that the harvest was large enough to justify a dedicated processing space.
The location between 980 and 1,300 metres creates its own microclimate, with heavy monsoon rains and a protective mist. Lakyrsiew works without chemical pesticides and produces just 5,000 kilograms per year. All employees come from the Meghalaya region and receive a living wage.
