Lakyrsiew Black comes from Lakyrsiew Tea Garden in Meghalaya, between Assam and Darjeeling in the Himalayan foothills of India. The garden stands on land belonging to Nayantara, on the shores of Umiam Lake. Her husband Geert came across a forgotten report by British tea surveyors from 1840, which had already identified this area as suitable for tea. The first bushes were planted in 2002.
This black tea comes from the AV2 cultivar, one of the best-known Darjeeling cultivars. The picked leaves are processed on the same day to preserve their freshness: lightly rolled, with minimal oxidation.
The garden sits in the midst of untouched forest. Lakyrsiew produces barely 5,000 kilograms per year.
Storing loose leaf tea correctly is important to preserve its freshness and flavour. Keep it away from the four elements that affect quality: air, heat, light, and moisture.
