The story behind the tea: Lakyrsiew

In the hills of Meghalaya, in India, between the better-known tea regions of Assam and Darjeeling, lies Lakyrsiew. Nayantara, born in Shillong, and her Dutch husband Geert Linnebank planted the first bushes there in 2002, on land that British tea scouts had already identified as suitable a century and a half earlier.

The garden works without chemical pesticides and produces just 5,000 kilograms of tea a year. Lakyrsiew means "the awakening" in Khasi.
