Skimmelberg is situated at the foot of the Skimmelberg in the Cederberg, north of Cape Town, where the family business has worked with rooibos and buchu for generations. Both plants are found growing wild nowhere else in the world. Skimmelberg is responsible for harvesting, processing, and packaging, without the involvement of external parties.

The business works without artificial fertiliser or pesticides and is certified by CERES. Through a Benefit Sharing Agreement, Skimmelberg recognises the Khoi-Khoi and San as the original holders of knowledge about buchu. Part of the farm is a protected nature reserve, connected to the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor.
