Thailand

Thailand has been producing tea on a commercial scale since the 1980s, after hill tribes in the north of the country switched from opium cultivation to farming. Production is concentrated in the northern mountain provinces, primarily in Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,400 metres.

Thailand is internationally known for its oolong tea, with floral aromas and fruity notes as its characteristic profile. Alongside oolong, production of green, black, and white tea is growing. The artisan segment is small but growing steadily.
