Uganda

Uganda is the third largest tea producer in Africa. The tea fields are located in the west of the country, on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains and around Fort Portal, at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,800 metres. The dark volcanic soils and humid climate give the tea a pronounced character.

The majority of production is CTC tea for the export market. A growing group of producers is deliberately switching to orthodox processing and focusing on green and white tea. In 2023, more than 1,200 female tea farmers from 26 districts founded Women in Tea Uganda.
