Description

Malawi Zen is a white tea from Satemwa Tea Estate in the Shire Highlands of Malawi. The bright green leaves with silvery tips are hand-picked and, much like China’s Bai Mu Dan (White Peony), undergo a natural withering process in the open air.

The infusion is a light yellow-green, carrying a fresh, uplifting aroma. Its flavour is a soft, velvety blend of sweet rose and a hint of lime blossom, finished with a refreshing touch.

Thanks to the bright and floral character of this white tea, Malawi Zen also makes a wonderfully cooling iced tea.

The story behind the tea: Satemwa Tea Estate

At Satemwa Tea Estate in the Shire Highlands of Malawi, the Kay family has been producing tea since 1923. Under Alexander Kay, third generation, the focus shifted from mass production to specialty tea.

All leaves are hand-picked. Satemwa employs around 1,800 people and also runs a clinic and a primary school for the local community.
