Sakare Black is a black tea from the Usambara Mountains in northeastern Tanzania, produced by the Sakare Tea Cooperative in collaboration with Kazi Yetu. The tea comes from an organic, cooperatively managed plantation in the village of Bungu, at 1,296 metres above sea level. The gardens border the Amani Nature Forest Reserve, where the humid mountain climate promotes slow growth and rich leaf aroma.
The leaves are hand-picked, selecting two leaves and a bud. After withering, a controlled oxidation process and low-temperature drying follow, developing the tea’s full colour and aroma.
Sakare Black brews a warm, copper-hued infusion with a pleasant aroma. The taste is balanced, with light malty notes and natural sweetness. Production supports local women and promotes regenerative agriculture in the Usambara region.
Storing loose leaf tea correctly is important to preserve its freshness and flavour. Keep it away from the four elements that affect quality: air, heat, light, and moisture.
