Sencha Okuhikari is a green tea from Akihito Takaki, a fourth-generation tea farmer in the village of Hoshino, Yame, Fukuoka. He grows, processes, and sells his tea himself, without intermediaries.
Okuhikari is a cultivar that is harvested later than most others. It is a cross between Yabukita and Chinese tea bushes, and is rarely found outside Shizuoka. While most sencha from Yame is shaded from direct sunlight, Takaki lets this cultivar grow unshaded. The scent is light and sweet. The flavour brings spiced notes with a hint of citrus.
His conviction is that good tea begins above all with good soil. His tea fields stand on hundred-year-old land in Hoshino, Japan.
Storing loose leaf tea correctly is important to preserve its freshness and flavour. Keep it away from the four elements that affect quality: air, heat, light, and moisture.
